About the Artist
Discover the artist behind the work and her creative journey
Tracey Currington
Tracey Currington began her artistic journey in 2015, embarking on a path of creative exploration that has led her to develop a distinctive voice in contemporary art. Primarily self-taught, she honed her skills through weekend workshops and online courses, allowing her natural intuition and creativity to guide her artistic development.
Working across multiple mediums including acrylics, mixed media, watercolor, cold wax, oils, and encaustics (melted beeswax and damar resin), Tracey creates both abstract landscapes and purely abstract works that are rich in texture and visual depth. Her artistic practice is deeply influenced by travel and nature, which inspire the organic forms and atmospheric qualities present in her work.
Tracey's approach emphasizes creative freedom and exploration, allowing each piece to evolve naturally through layers of color, texture, and mark-making. Her works range from structured compositions to more spontaneous expressions, unified by her sophisticated understanding of color relationships and surface treatment.
Artist Statement
My artistic practice is rooted in exploration and the joy of creative discovery. I work intuitively, allowing each piece to guide me through its development rather than forcing predetermined outcomes. The process itself becomes part of the artwork's story.
Nature and travel experiences deeply influence my work, not through literal representation, but through the emotional and sensory memories they evoke. I'm drawn to the way light plays across landscapes, the texture of weathered surfaces, and the subtle color harmonies found in natural environments.
Working with various mediums—from the fluidity of watercolor to the sculptural qualities of encaustic—allows me to express different aspects of these experiences. Each medium offers unique possibilities for texture, transparency, and depth that contribute to the overall emotional resonance of the work.
My goal is to create pieces that invite contemplation and offer viewers their own space for interpretation and connection.
